Our Tips for great photos with bae.
five fool-proof tips to get a great photo with your person.
every. single. time.
INVEST IN YOUR ARTIST.
This typically goes without saying – but your photographer is your best investment. Our wonderful photographer Jessica with Girl with the Tattoos, is truly a magical unicorn. We were so nervous, and she totally loosened us up! She asked us funny questions that genuinely got us laughing. It instantly put us at ease and made the shoot so much easier and natural!
HAVE A DRINK.
Or, two - but seriously, I cannot say this enough – have a drink before your shoot! Our sweet spot was two glasses of wine. Not only does this help with your nerves, but it got us super giggly, touchy, and light on our feet. It is so important to be comfortable in front of the camera and for me, a good glass of wine really did the trick!
Wear colors that pop.
It is really important to think about the elements you are shooting in, and then wear colors to compliment them. For our shoot I went with red accents. I knew I wanted something we could use for holiday greetings and red seemed like a natural choice. The other reason I picked red, is I knew it would pop on film. Winter is all about muted neutrals, so picking a bold and bright accent color was a must!
KNOW YOUR ANGLES.
For me, this was having my partner take photos of me in my outfit from EVERY angle! I know that from the side is typically not my best (I hate my profile), so I wanted to make sure I wore something that was warm, but also cinched my waist. I chose my grey wrap coat. This was a good choice because I could make sure the waist was tied super tight to give me more of an hourglass shape in pictures. I recommend taking photos in your outfit beforehand, so you can tweak your choices in advance.
This is really the bottom line. Go out there and play with your partner in front of the camera! My favorite photo from our shoot was when Kurtis picked me up and threw me over his shoulder. It was so fun, and it really captured the joy he brings me. So, go out there be you, and have some fun!
